Audi has confirmed it’s planning a plug-in version of its A8 flagship saloon, set to arrive later this year. The new PHEV A8 will come in two guises: a 55 TFSI e and a more powerful 60 TFSI e. The former model will use a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine with a gearbox-mounted electric motor for a combined power output of 357bhp and 500Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the 60 TFSI e will boast a higher-output version of the same 3.0 V6, featuring 463bhp and 700Nm of torque. The plug-in unit’s 14.1kWh lithium-ion battery pack can achieve an electric-only range of 40km (25 miles) under the WLTP rules.
